In 1962 Block A of the gundremmingen station became the first part-Bayernwerk-owned nuclear power plant to feed power into the national grid - apart, of course, from the Kahl experimental nuclear power plant (1962). The Block A demonstration power plant has since been decommissioned.
Block B and Block C were commissioned in 1984 and are still in operation. E.ON Kernkraft has a 25% stake in each. With a combined capacity of just on 2,700 megawatts and generating up to 20 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity a year, these two blocks jointly constitute Germany's largest nuclear power plant.
