New Energy means providing Germany and Europe with an electric service that's reliable, affordable, and environmentally safe.
And at E.ON Kernkraft, that's precisely what we do. As a subsidiary of E.ON Energie, we make an important contribution to Germany's electricity supply. Because at E.ON Kernkraft 'new energy' means guaranteeing electricity supply for Germany and Europe that's reliable, affordable and protects the environment.
E.ON Kernkraft operates six nuclear power stations in the German states of Bavaria, Lower Saxony, and Schleswig-Holstein, and owns shares in a further five. The Würgassen facility in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has been decommissioned, and dismantling work has been under way since 1995. The Stade facility in Lower Saxony was decommissioned in 2003.
Every year our nuclear plants are ranked among the most productive in the world. Their average availability factor of over 90 percent is no accident. This is not just because of our high safety standards and thorough plant maintenance program, but also the result of the strong commitment of our highly-skilled workforce of above 2,600.
Based in Hannover, Germany, E.ON Kernkraft is Europe's largest private-sector nuclear energy company. The net installed capacity of our portfolio of plants-including our share of capacity at our co-owned plants-totals about 8,560 MW. Last year, E.ON Kernkraft generated just on 63 billion kilowatt-hours of base-load electricity.
