Kernkraftwerk Würgassen
Commissioned in 1971, the Würgassen NPP was Germany's first nuclear power plant to be used purely for commercial power production. The plant is located on the Oberweser river, between Bad Karlshafen and Beverungen. The growing demand for electricity in the central states of the former West Germany and the need for a good supply of river water for cooling purposes were the two key deciding factors when the site was chosen.
The plant has been decommissioned and is currently being dismantled.
