Nuclear energy helps protect the environment

In the whole of human history the earth's climate has never been known to change as rapidly as it is changing at present.

And the cause of this? Global consumption of fossil fuels and slash-and-burn agricultural practices in developing countries are releasing vast quantities of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The outcome is global warming. The build-up of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere traps thermal radiation from the sun, thereby preventing it from escaping into space. The temperature of the earth's surface is constantly increasing as a result. The warning from the scientific community is clear: we must act now to control greenhouse gas emissions. If we don't, then the future is grim; we can look forward to massive environmental disasters such as unprecedented droughts, large-scale flooding, and massive loss of coastline due to rising sea levels.

E.ON Energie is committed to safeguarding the environment by providing an efficient energy mix. E.ON Energie's ongoing efforts to increase the efficiency of its generation and transmission assets and its greater use of renewable energy resources all play a part in minimizing environmental impacts, and its nuclear power plants make an important contribution to reducing global CO2 emissions. Nuclear power plants do not emit pollutants such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide.

E.ON Kernkraft spares the planet some 60 million metric tons of carbon dioxide every year.

E.ON Kernkraft is committed to the safe storage of spent fuel elements and radioactive waste.
