E.ON Kernkraft is in the business of supplying base-load electricity-the supply that needs to be constantly available to meet the needs of energy users. Our nuclear power plants provide a large proportion of Germany's base-load supply. While a reliable supply of energy is now a basic necessity, it must never be taken for granted. The world does not have an inexhaustible supply of fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas; and renewable energy sources are not yet sufficient to meet demand. Therefore, as a leading generator of electricity, it is incumbent upon us to play our part in providing Germany with a balanced energy mix. Nuclear energy is an essential part of this.
